Mbombela United won 3 -3 against Vasco da Gama in the Nedbank preliminary to book a place in the Last 32 round.

Just 3 seasons ago, Mfanimphela ‘Mphela’ Maseko captained Mbombela United to its first ever Nedbank Last 32 qualification with a date against Vasco Da Gama in Kanyamazane Stadium. Mbombela United who were still playing in the then Vodacom League, walked into the field with hopes of cruising past the Cape Town based side so easily after watching them being defeated by Sivutsa Stars just 3 days earlier in Kabokweni Stadium. Captain ‘Mphela’ walked out off the pitch with his head down at the end of 90 minutes after his team was massacred by 4 – 1.
3 season later and now leading from the touchline, Mfanimphela took along with him a to Parrow (Vasco da Gama’s home ground) a squad of mainly players who hadn’t had much game time in a bid to reclaim his glory and this time, on a level playing field since both teams are in the same league.
Goals from lanky striker, Stander Cohen and Bongani ‘Ronaldo’ Ndlovu booked a place for Tingwenyama in the lucrative tournament.
The draw for the last 32 will be conducted early in January.
