2013/14 Season at a glance

Welcome to the new season but with still the same mandate and goal of participating in the SAFA National First. Last season saw the team survive fierce challenges both in the field of play, boardroom and courts. Now that’s water under the bridge yet the experience is so immense and invaluable. Despite all these, we emerged the deserved winners of Mpumalanga Province’s SAFA 2nd division and qualified for a spot in the National Playoffs.

I strongly believe that life is a series of beginnings; if you archive your goals you set new ones an if you fail, you begin again. Having failed to win promotion in the national playoffs was disappointing yet an eye opener to our standard of the game both to us as a team and players as well.
This was a steep uphill learning curve, an experience that cannot be bought anywhere, priceless and invaluable. Like I said earlier, it’s now water under the bridge.

Tingwenyama supporters have always inspired the team throughout the season and that is one of the major reasons behind the team’s unbeaten run last season, which is a national record. This season, we shall intensify our supporters’ recruitment drive, issuing membership cards and uniform/ club regalia during our matches and outside. I am certain that Tingwenyama supporters have made this brand (Mbombela United FC) to be what it is today. A recognised and successful community soccer brand, if not the best in the province. This brand is marketable and hence our drive to rope in other sponsors to grow it and also benefit our supporters. This is a season of “Operation Siyangena”.

The team has appointed a new coach Alex Zondi, with a clear mandate of reclaiming the league title and win promotion into the 1st division this season. We believe he is the right person for the job and comes highly recommended. He has done a wonderful job since taking over during the offseason period. He conducted trials with the assistant coach Mfanimphela “Mphela” Maseko who has captained the team for the past three seasons. Talent was scouted across the country and over three hundred players attended the trials. It is amazing to see how he blended a team of retained and new players making them a formidable team that is going to contest for league honours and promotion.

Recruitment of players was on a three year plan and the club will spare no resources in making sure that these players are eventually capable of competing at the highest level possible.
